Of course, top of the list has to be the beach – which is in the running for Perth’s most popular! Head in for a morning dip, or catch a wave when the swell picks up. The beach is popular with learner surfers as well, with the Scarborough Beach Surf School the oldest in the world! Of course, you’ve got to get your gear from The Surf Boardroom: established in 1988, it’s an iconic destination for all your surfing needs. If you prefer calmer waters, the beachside pool (the only one in WA) is geothermically heated to 27 degrees all year round – a blessing in winter!
THE MATCHES
During a game of beach soccer at Scaraborough Beach, you can expect to see teams of enthusiastic players battling it out amidst the breathtaking coastal scenery. The game is typically played with fewer players on each team compared to regular soccer, adding to the intensity and excitement.
At any Australian Beach Soccer location you can expect a variety of matches for all skill levels.

MATCH OVERVIEW
- 5 players on each team
- Maximum of 12 in matchday squad
- 3 periods of 12 minutes
- No draws in beach soccer
- Penalties (5 each – followed by Sudden Death)
- Win in Normal Time = 3 points
- Win in Extra Time = 2 points
- Win on Penalties = 1 point

DJs may spin lively tracks, adding a rhythmic backdrop to the action on the sand. The music sets the tone for a fun and energetic atmosphere, keeping players motivated and engaging spectators in the excitement of the game.

The Scarborough Sunset Markets have become an absolute icon and an institution. While it may have started as a summer-exclusive event, the markets now light up the foreshore through the winter, too – with Perth’s best food trucks, artisan makers, DJs and live musicians keeping the vibes up and even activities for your pooch!
If you’re without a car, it’s still easy to explore all that Scarborough has to offer. The Perth Coastal Explorer will take you from the CBD all the way up to Hillary’s, stopping at Scarborough Beach’s beautiful white sands and glittering blue water.
